I'd highly recommend getting to one of the Islands, and if you like whisky Islay is a fab choice. Hire a car for the day (google Islay car hire for the contact) and get to Bruichladdich (my favourite), Arbeg (good cafe for lunch) Lagavulin and Laphroaig. Shed a tear as you drive past Port Ellen.

The Port Charlotte hotel is a great place to stay, and also eat dinner. The Lochside hotel in Bowmore isn't as nice but does have a stunning booze selection in the bar.
