Statistical Analysis of Upgrades on One World

I was at CLK recently and talking to a friend while we were both in the lounge waiting for our flights. I just had the good fortune to be upgraded. We compared notes on upgrades. We agreed it is one of those things never to ask for, but never ungrateful for.

Having compared notes did a statistical analysis and came up with this. Am a Marco Polo Gold Card Member of over a decade standing and these flights cover the period. Also before you think I am sad (and be right) qualified as a PPL hence the log.

Airline Flights Upgrade % Pattern
American 39 2.5% Only fly Y on AA
British Airways 75 0.0% 1/3 in C & Same for Y & Y+
Cathay Pacific 172 7.0% 50/50 Y/C
Dragonair 13 1.0% 50/50 Y/C
Iberia 1 0.0% Y
JAL 27 0.0% 60/40 Y/C
Qantas 49 4.0% 60/40 Y/C

Please note never chosen a flight because of the chance of an upgrade, even tried to turn it down before it was pointed out would only go to another high tier flyer. Only 2 on CX were long haul. All upgrades Y to C.

Interested to compare notes.
