I usually get this sort of info by going to the airport web site and looking at their arrivals/departures board, you can also get a feel for typical delays etc.

One thing I noticed on flight tracker is that if you click on "view extended flight status" you can get to see the status messages. I only just found this out and was thinking of using it if stuck at an airport with no announcements about a horrendous delay..... you could at least get a feel for what is likely to happen just before the announcement is made and the mob descends upon the limited good hotel spaces available when a flight is canceled... has anyone else done this, would it work?

By the way the "view extended flight status link may not work for long, it may only be a temporary page.
