If it is in a place where the currency is not the same as your home, not prepaying the hotel bill means that you can use whatever excess currency you have to pay part of the hotel bill at your last hotel in the country (keeping enough to get to the airport and such), so that you don't have to bring it home or exchange it at unfavorable rates somewhere.
