The only thing I know about the Berlin Marriott is that my attempt for a Platinum Override there was shot down. (It's one of the four places I've tried and been bonged for the override.)
Four guys traveling together...we were willing to pay rack rate...but Marriott wouldn't allow it. Fortunately I ended up getting an award room at the Westin: they were showing sold out in regular rooms but had jr. suites available. A Starwood agent in the U.S. placed a call to the hotel and worked it out so we could redeem that room for 8500 points, even though we never had a regular 7000 point room booking to upgrade from.
I was surprised that Starwood went out of their way to make it work for me - a "lite" Gold (due to the SPG Amex) - yet Marriott couldn't do anything for a Plat who does the 60+ actual nights at the hotels, mostly at full-service Marriotts.
