They put me on the day-of-flight upgrade list this morning when I dropped by YQR, so we'll see what develops later today in Calgary.

I won't be too torn if we don't get upgraded as the fare was ridiculously low and we are taking a vacation. I am used to using the London Pass with confirmed upgrades at booking, so have never messed around like this before. The irony is that when we booked these flights we considered going through YYZ, and even YEG, but opted to risk the tight connection in YYC: all the other flights we could have been on had I space at the 4-day window, and some still had a few I-seats left yesterday. Oh well!
