IC Melbourne Rialto

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Partly.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked deluxe king on free club package, given a premium king as then available. Could use it until an executive suite became available later in the day. As a one night stay, I didn't want to move a second time so accepted the one level upgrade.

How are the rooms?
Good room. Comfortable, well-equiped and stylish. Faced outwards, rather than to the inner lane but still very dark. Not helped by the dirtiest windows I've seen. Literally you could not see out. There is a drought in Melbourne and I was told that they couldn't be washed. Haven't seen this in any other Melbourne hotel and there is such a thing as windex! The bathroom had a shower and separate bath, bed new and extremely comfortable.

How is the exec. lounge?
Small, cluttered with heavy furniture. Looks like an after thought. Has wireless but no PC - have to go to the Business centre for that.
The service in the lounge was very poor. Coffee machine wouldn't work. Afternoon tea was a few tired sandwiches and biscuits, not replenished.
Evening drinks were self service 500pm to 7.00pm We arived 6.00pm - big mistake. No food left, and no more replaced. Was told by someone else that there had been a good selection at 5.00pm. No wine glasses, most spirit bottles empty and not replaced, uncleared dirty tables, only one staff member with 40 guests when I was there.
Breakfast, on the other hand, was a good club selection of mainly cold items but with scramled eggs and bacon. But I was early and there were few others there.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Location.
Fitness room and 10 metre indoor lap pool. Bathrooms in the complexe were filty and sauna was marked as out of order.
Room.
Physical style of the hotel suits me though I think most rooms would be on the dark side.
mini bar with a half bottle of Tattinger but only one of each spirit.
No charge at present for computer use in the business centre.
Bad:
inadequate numbers and poorly trained, motivated club staff. Young lady, with the chaos around her, was on her cell phone. One guest asked her whether she was paid to talk to friends or intended to repenish the stock!
poorly organised reception area
no RA amenity until I asked at 7.00pm. They forgot. Then 2 apples, a small bottle of Evian and a bottle of wine. Same wine that given in the CP 3 blocks away.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Clearly good value as a pointsbreak or even at 30K points compared with other ICs. I would not use the club again until I was confident it would be a better experience. I'd be prepared to consider these teething problems but they need to get their act together soon.
