The answer is one word: churn. With no other card can you repetitively open and close new accounts and get the bonus miles (now 30,000 per card). At one personal card a month and one business card every 90 days, that's 16 cards per year or 400,000 at the old rate of 25,000 per card and 480,000 at the new rate. Throw in a spouse and you've got almost a million miles a year for doing next to nothing. What is there not to understand?
And when you have more AA miles than you will use, you can convert the rest to Hilton Honors Points. 150,000 AA miles convert to 300,000 Hilton Points. That's more than enough nice week long stay , at your favorite Hilton.
