Well it depends I bought a ticket with PWM yesterday. It cost me 25,000 and that's it no extra taxes etc. If I had redeemed it with miles it would have cost me 32,500 + tax + fees. Maybe it's not a very good use for the miles as DCA-LAS fares are really cheap but since I'm not the one flying it don't care about the miles.
