Somewhat tangentially related -- this has sort-of happened to me on Southwest. I took a VDB and they asked me to board anyway. Just before they closed the door, they asked me to get off the plane since another confirmed passenger showed up. They gave me the VDB once I was off. A bit weird, but at least there's precedence for ejection (?) after boarding due to another confirmed passenger.
