I can tell the difference between Texas, Louisiana, and Florida/Alabama, but not between Florida and Alabama. (But I grew up in the US.) However, each of these accents is immediately recognisable as a "Southern US" accent. That's why I placed "accents" in the plural in my post which you quoted.
