Did you check availability directly with the hotel? When I was booking my trip last summer I was advised (by RewardPlanner?) on this forum not to take no for an answer from the hhonors 800 number. I called Waikoloa directly and got exactly what I wanted. They even let me change the dates a few times without hesitation.
