I am booked on this evening's UA 5936 AUS-ORD. Last night, I put myself on standby for the earlier flight (UA 7555) - free standby, not the $75 confirmed standby or however much it costs. I got "the last" seat on the flight, and once we'd boarded and I was sitting down with luggage stowed, the GA came on board.

"Are you Mr. GFunk?" she asked. When I said I was, she said she'd mistakenly given me someone else's seat who had a confirmed seat assignment. I asked if I could get the IDB credit, and she said sure. After retrieving my bag and closing out the flight, the GA came back and said she spoke with her manager who said I could get a $250 travel certificate. She said she technically shouldn't have to do anything since I was just on standby and am really just getting what I'd had before.

What do people think about this affair? Throughout, the GA was very nice and professional...and I didn't fight her much either, so I imagine she was happy to help an inconvenienced passenger.
