Munchmobile (http://www.nj.com/munchmobile/), produced by the state newspaper, is an excellent resource for this--during the summer they run weekly columns reviewing the best 5 or 6 restaurants in each category, and most of them can be found in the Shore area. IMHO, Lakewood and Jackson (where Six Flags is) are fairly dull, culinarily speaking--but there's a huge range of options in the Long Branch-Belmar-Point Pleasant strip to the east.
