We live in the area and we avoid MIA. Wouldn't it be a better source of information than you live in NYC? Although there is a joke in the local newspapers that NYC is just a suburb of FLL (due to the large population of "permanent" snowbirds here were from NYC and still have deep connections there.)
You are fortunate to be able to choose between two airports, and choose FLL when you can because you find it more convenient. I have a choice between several airports and generally choose LGA, also because it's more convenient. Convenience, however, has nothing to do with your ridiculous post in which you stated that a 55-minute connection at MIA "is hardly doable." Not only is it doable, but people do it all the time without difficulty. MIA is a large, congested airport in an area prone to unpredictable weather, and for that reason many people, myself included, like to build in some cushion when connecting at MIA. But most of the time, most passengers with a 55-minute connection will be fine.
