Wedding in Mexico postponed; now what?

So my friend decided to postpone his wedding which was scheduled for May 9 in Acapulco. It is unknown where/when the wedding will ultimately be.

Now I'm in a tricky situation. I booked PHL-CLT-MEX-ACA rt on Expedia. PHL-CLT-MEX is on US. MEX-ACA is on Mexicana one-way and on Air Mexico the other way. The US telephone agents are telling me that I can cancel my trip and then rebook within a year (without a change fee) to another destination, but -- here's the catch -- I must use all three airlines on the new trip I take. So I'd have to go to Mexico if I want to spend the same amount of money.

Frankly, I have no real desire to go to Acapulco unless there is a special reason (like a wedding). I'm more of a Tulum guy, which I'd get to from Cancun. Since I can fly on US PHL-CUN direct, I'd have no need to use the other two airlines which US insists I must use. I asked the agent if I could just be credited with the value of my PHL-CLT-MEX rt segments on US, but she said that Reservations has no way to credit that. She suggested that I email Customer Service and see if they can come up with an amount to credit me.

To further complicate things, my gf was scheduled to meet me in ACA after flying PHL-IAD-Oaxaca on CO earlier in the week (5/1). She was going to take Mexicana to get to ACA (Oaxaca-MEX-ACA) and then return home with me on Mexicana and US.

Sure, we could stick with flights we have, but much of what she wanted to see/do in Oaxaca is shut down now. And Acapulco is going to similar.

I'll likely do what the telephone agent suggests and see what Customer Service can arrange. In the meanwhile, any suggestions?
