I can see this post will turn into a SYD vs MEL thread and of course u can never have a right answer in opinions, but the fact is SYD is just better
Strategy for QF like BA is doing in LHR, concentrate the hub in SYD and force people to transit in SYD. MEL can just be a shuttle route utilising the 738s
The only real advantages that SYD has are a bigger QF F Lounge, less susceptible to shut down due to fog, more incoming pax facilities and airport being closer to city than it is in MEL.
Apart from that, SYD airport sucks. Noise tax, stupid curfew and even more stupid people and politicians with no balls to do proactive squat about it.
But I must say, MEL and SYD could use a BNE-Int-esque or ADL-esque terminal facelift. SYD is undergoing a face change that seems to be taking ages; MEL just looks.....old.
