According to MSNBC, the NYPD said they were informed of this happening but were told not to tell the public:

In a statement afterwards, the NYPD said the flight "was authorized by the FAA for the vicinity of the Statue of Liberty, with directives to local authorities not to disclose information about it, but to direct all inquiries to the FAA Air Traffic Security Coordinator."


Wanna bet this was for a movie......and someone (politician) made a mint of money getting it approved. Proves to me the government thinks of us as numbers, not people.

BTW--the plane used was the back-up Presidential 747.....?????
