Strange way from DUB - SXM

Looking at flights to take me to St Martin in Jan 2010 and came across this strange itinerary:

AF3656 09:30 Dublin, Dublin (DUB) - Ireland 12:10 New York, John F Kennedy (JFK) NY - u. s. a. non stop B 767 Voyageur B
Flight operated by Delta Air Lines

AF 019 19:10 New York, Newark Liberty Intl (EWR) NY - u. s. a. 08:30
+1 Day Paris, Charles de Gaulle (CDG) - France non stop A 330 Voyageur Y

AF488 10:40 +1 Day Paris, Charles de Gaulle (CDG) - France 14:30
+1 Day Saint Marteen, Pr. Juliana (SXM) - Neth Antilles non stop A 340 Voyageur M

Total Travel time: 33 Hrs...

Why would I (or anyone) want to first fly to JFK only to change airport to EWR to then fly to CDG to then catch the direct flight to SXM when the DUB-CDG direct flight takes me around 2 hrs...
