In other words, if you enter Syria on non-US passport and get in trouble, you can't run to US embassy to ask for help. Now, i've never tested it, but every time I decide which passport to pull out, i think how much hassles it saves me vs potential downside. Maybe that's all bull..if someone can disprove, i'd love to hear.
actually, you can always ask them for help, and they will probably give it to you as well. the only thing is that the country you have entered will always consider you to belong to the state under whose passport (or travel document) you have entered it. if they have rules regarding notification to the embassy upon arrest (which almost every UN-member place does, although a few barbaric places seem to not enforce it... north korea, usa...) they would also just notify the embassy... of your passport.
