The first time I ever traveled through T5 it seemed so blindingly obvious to me that South security was a dedicated Fast Track area, being as it is surrounded by F and J checkins, that I was surprised there was no dirty great big sign above it saying so. Being a newbie I also assumed the conformance checking was actually a class-of-travel/status check for using fast track, rather than what it is: yet another overpriced and ineffective way of subjugating customers to the self serving directives of invisible myopic back office monopolistic bureaucrats.

After 45 minutes in the Fast Track line, I was cured of my foolish bourgeois radicalism. Of COURSE BA/BAA haven't done the obvious. After all, they only had £1.2 billion to spend and 10 years of planning in which to get it right.

On a side note, before we go overboard about the F area in HKG, remember they don't have a fast track at all. And last time I was there (march) they asked me to check in at the J desks as they only had 1 person working F.
