Is it rude removing another passenger’s bags?

I was in LAX RCC the other day and I sat down, grabbed a chair, checked email, etc. I then went to the men’s room and left my comp and bag on a chair by the windows. When I returned I saw that another man moved my belongings and placed them aside. He was sitting there with his kids. I told him that was my seat temporarily and I placed my belongings there as to reserve it.

He wasn’t very nice and told me that the seat was empty for a while. (It takes me a minute to pee) I moved and was polite but I would never do that to another person. I just found another seat. My GF thinks I am being snobby, I think it is just etiquette and you don’t do that.

Thoughts? Do you touch another person’s bags and when?
