I try very hard to never check luggage - so everything

If I have to check:
Ipod
Books or magazines
Water
Snack (if horrors, stuck in coach)
Eyeshade / Ear plugs (if shorter flight with no amenity kit)
Laptop (if work)
Camera or any other expensive items
Jewelry
