2. Is the whole event overwhelming - For example NYC Pride somewhat takes over the cities night-life and it becomes long lines, double prices, etc. For a first visit to AUS would you arrive to take part in the events or after to enjoy a more normal city experience.

We are still trying to plan our whole trip (Including SYD/CNS/MEL) so if anyone feels like chatting!
What are the dates for Mardi gras in 2010? by the way I hear that the weather is beautiful around that time (summer like weather)
