Laptop model/configuration discrepancy.
The box that the laptop came in says it's model Acer Aspire 2410-2597 (2410 sereies). The Laptop itself says its Model 2410z. THe two models have slightly different configurations. The 2410 series can have maximum 4GB of memory and the 2410Z can have max 2 GB. The manufacturer's website is silent and quite useless. They are not willing to give any support now that the laptop is out of warranty.
Crucial's website also shows 2 GB max for model 2410Z. When I run their scanning software, it says it's model 2410 and that it can support max 4GB. To make it worse, according to crucial's scan 2410 does not support dual channel mode, but 2410z does. The owner's manual says both 2410 and 2410z support dual channel mode.
How do I resolve this? I ran CPU-Z. Comparing the hardware information given by CPU-Z with the description in the owner's manual (which describes a 4 different models), I tend to think it's 2410Z. When the computer was under warrany, I was quite busy at work and id not use this laptop much. Now I find myself sing it more and would like to upgrade the memory. How do I resolve this discrepancy?
