Is AC.com validating AP numbers?

Am back from some time in CUN so if this has been covered forgive me but just noticed on the TA side of ac.com that when I entered a client's AP number a little note came up saying validating and then returned a confirmation that name and account both matched. An incorrect entry return an error response:

The Aeroplan number entered is not valid. Please verify the Aeroplan number you have entered and ensure that the passenger name matches the name appearing on the Aeroplan membership card.

Please note that it is not possible to collect frequent flyer points on someone else's card.

First impression is ^ to this feature as it not only corrects simple entry errors but would remind members who maybe signed up years ago under a different version of the name to take the time to correct it so points post without delay due to name errors. Has this feature been up & running long? If there'a another thread on the topic maybe the Mod.'s can merge them as a search didn't return anything, though FT search ain't what it used to be.
