As others have said, do something (earn or spend a few miles) to keep the miles alive. For example if you join points.com, you get 100 miles and your account is safe for 18 months. All sorts of activities can earn you miles:

Shopping: https://www.aadvantageeshopping.com/...derby=category

Dining: https://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do...tageDining.jsp

Retail: https://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do...Gifts/main.jsp

Phone/Internet: https://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do...ernet/main.jsp

Donate to charities: https://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do...ities/main.jsp

So it is quite conceivable that you might earn enough miles to purchase one or more award ticket. Otherwise, an occasional activity every few months will keep your account alive.

In the meantime, keep participating in FT until your post count is 90 (posting just to "pad" one's post count is not allowed, so these should be real discussions). At that time you can participate in Coupon Connection. For example you could trade your miles for airline gift cards or hotel nights. You can use those yourself or gift them to family/friends.
