Would something like that typically be announced to the passengers? I wouldn't have thought so based on the possibility it could be misunderstood by nervous/inexperienced flyers. ie "What do you mean the captain's in training!!!"

LH cockpit crews sometimes announce it. I think it really depends on the mood of the pilot. They also sometimes say who will do the landings like:"Today M. XY our first officer will be in charge of the landing."
