As far as the internet situation goes, most hotels have a business center where crews can get online for free. In fact, it is required on international layovers. I think what the union is asking for here is free internet access in the room. I do think this may be a little hard to achieve. IME, only about 50% of the hotels provide their own internet service. The other half have a contracted company providing it. There have been instances where I have had the internet not work well and asked for a refund and the hotel tells me that I need to contact "ABC Interweb Services" directly for a refund. To provide free internet to crews in this case would mean some hotels having to eat the cost.
However, I do know the some airlines, ala WN, do have some perks in their hotel contracts. For example, WN has the 3-2-1 deal. Every hotel they stay at is required to provide $3 mixed drinks, $2 wine, and $1 beer! Now that's a perk I would love seeing how expensive hotel bars can be!
