The problem with a code share is simple timing.. Most Hawaii flights leave the west coast in the morning, making it pretty impractical for a code share passenger coming from the east to make a connection since Southwest does not operate red eye flights. Southwest currently HAS a code share agreement with Hawaiian for freight, and that's because freight can sit until the next day. I'm pretty sure if not for that one obstacle, the Hawaiian code share would include passengers as well..
I think eventually there will be some operational changes that will allow the Hawaii CS to be practical.
That's why ATA starting operating the vast majority of their Hawaii service as afternoon departures from the West Coast to Hawaii turning to redeye flights back to the West Coast. It was great out of PHX. The only issue was the lack of interisland connections later in the evening. However, ATA flew to many of the other islands.
