You might get more/better advice by using your time to skim what's already been posted (e.g. the posts on this/previous page about upgrades) rather than hoping others use their time to post again what's already been posted.
In short, IMO (having stayed at the StR about half a dozen times and once at the Sheraton Towers) apart from much better access to the MRT, the StR is better than the Sheraton Towers in every respect. Whether it's better value for money depends I think on how much $400-500 is worth to you.
