I think this was a one time situation. It's something that would make me review the pros and cons long and hard about booking at the property.

I believe you need to look at the bigger picture when booking (such as):

Were there issues at this property reported prior to this?
What was general conscensus of the management prior to this property?
Does the property suit your (individual) needs?

To me this is the same as booking at the Four Points Miami Beach. I had a horrendous stay as well as have the majority of posters here. However, some have reported excellent stays. Do you book at this property?

We each have our own criteria for choosing a particular frequent guest program and the hotels participating in that program. Who is to say who is right or wrong or a hotel is bad or good after one major incident. How I see it, what will they do to ensure something like this does not happen again?

It's an individual choice and your experience may vary.
