BA.com and mixing travel classes

Question - how come BA.com lets you mix travel classes (eg. CW one way, WTP the other) ONLY if you're going to or from LHR?

As a MAN passenger it is something I find massively irritating. On more than one occasion, I've ended up taking the risk of separate PNRs and start again with an LHR ticket. One day that's going to bite me. Which seems very dumb if BA are trying to attract transit pax through T5.

* Is this a functionality issue for the website? (If so, it can't be difficult to expose that drop down)

* Or is it about ticketing strategy? (If so, what is the upside of this strategy )

Does anyone know?

I can live with MAN being abandoned by BA but this is a big factor for me in feeling like a regional leper.
