I've never booked anything on Expedia but with Orbitz, as long as you enter your MP number, the itinerary does show up automatically under My Itineraries. From there, you can go and change your seats to E+, apply for upgrades, etc.
My experience with Orbitz is that, assuming you have a profile there, it seems to know whether you have status with UA. It always lets me book E+ at time of purchase without having to go to .bomb later.
