yes. it costs 40,000 miles + $ 350 each way to use miles to get into business class. (assuming you're not buying full fare economy). I do this often for my dad with my miles, just have your dad call AA and apply his miles to your ticket (and pay the copay). Don't be surprised if you're waitlisted though.
