It matters a huge amount. I've had some incredible views not only during take-off and landing (a good view of cities like Rio and Cape Town when arriving is really magical) but also throughout long flights over land, especially from Asia.
And I prefer to read my natural light where possible - it is much more pleasant that reading by the artificial cabin lights. There's a lot less natural light in 15A/K of a 4-class 777 than in most window seats - I can assure you it makes a difference.
If we're ever on the same plane, remind me to offer your window seat to other passengers.
It's not half as bad as some on here make out.
It horrible: on routes with a choice, e.g. to JFK, I would choose any 747 flight over any (4-class) 777 flight. On routes where there is no choice, I'd at least look for an alternative routing.
