I can't think of any LGA-bound flights I've been on that crossed over lower Manhattan. Most flights either fly north through Brooklyn and Queens or fly up one of the rivers parallel to Manhattan before turning to land at LGA.

Anybody know why it was different last night?
While LGA was landing on rwy 4 yesterday, JFK was also landing on rwy 13(L?), approaching from the south then turning east. I'm assuming that, due to the parallel tracks, the LGA approaches needed to stay farther west, thus passing over the LES of Manhattan rather than staying out over Brooklyn.
