Really? We only ever use Amex Plat to book overseas restaurants (for the reasons you've said yourself re being able to do it directly). Normally we identify a list of restaurants, number of diners and then leave the task with Amex to sort out - worked a particular treat for Australia, Singapore etc.

Might be new - we last did this in November.
