Sorry to disagree again, but I've found this pretty worthless too. FHR takes a great chunk of the hotel price (I would guess 25%, although I don't know for FHR specifically - I'm basing this on what I do know about similar programmes) which you can often get knocked directly off the advertised price simply by booking directly with the hotel by email (not using their web booking engine which is often obliged to offer the same price as FHR/Tablet/whatever). If you're a regular guest and know the owner or manager, or have access to a corporate negotiated rate, the price will come even lower than this. So, in other words, 25-50% off the FHR price or a late checkout? I know which I'd rather have.
As for the amenities and upgrades. last time I tried using FHR I got an upgrade to a room which was identical to the one booked except it was on the Club floor; and then told as it was an upgrade I couldn't use the Club facilities. What kind of an upgrade is that? Plus I got a free dinner at the hotel restaurant - clearly something they'd thrown in because otherwise they wouldn't have any customers: complicated yet repellent food, clearly beyond the competence of the chef, when the £25 dinner I'd had the previous night at the neighbourhood joint round the corner was vastly superior.
