I find them almost completely useless. There has been precisely one occasion, out of many where I have tried, where they've been able to secure a table I couldn't get myself. On the other hand, there are a few well-known London restaurants where I can myself get a table when they are "full" to the general public, and I'm not a particularly big spender - it's just based on being a regular customer.

If I could use my Amex Plat to book tables in New York, where I can't pull so many strings myself (well none directly, although I have a couple of friends who can), it might be useful, but they told me I can only use it in the UK. Is your Amex that you're using to book NY restaurants UK-based?
