Marriott doesn't status match top level, but you can try to get them to do a challenge match that is fairly easy to do. Then if you want to keep Marriott Plat or Gold a year and a half from now but haven't earned it, you will be able to keep it by paying with points.

You should think about whether you want to go with Hyatt or Marriott. Read the pluses and minues of each program and comparisons in the Hyatt and Marriott forums.
