For the sake of Mrs. Swede, I need this to be as simple as possible--idealy, double-clicks on an icon, the list of movies pops up immediately, she clicks on a movie, and the movie starts playing.

Uhhh... Windows Explorer? The icon on your desktop is a shortcut to a folder that contains the movies. Double-click it, then double-click on one of the files that is conveniently named after the movie. Media player software associated with the file type opens and starts playing.

I have never met an adult who wasn't "technical enough" to do something like this.
