I stay 1-2 nights every week at HI Boelelaan Amsterdam (nothing fancy but ok). Despite the rates may go up through certain periods it pays to book last minute (1-3 days before your stay). Prices go down to 125-150 Euro's for a standard room.

If you want to stay at an IC hotel in the Schiphol area please stick to the Crowne Plaza Hoofddorp. It's more expensive than HI Schiphol or Amsterdam but defintely better than HI Schiphol.

Although the room prices at HI Schiphol in Lijnden look as if it's a full blown HI hotel to me it's nothing more than a budget hotel. Rooms are very very simple with a very small bathroom. If you're going to stay frequently in the Schiphol area I strongly advise you not to book this hotel.
