No, I wasn't moved to the Four Seasons, but I was relocated and, in fairness, it was something like 8 months ahead of my stay. My initial reaction was probably more to do with the complete disappointment in the fact I'd never get to stay in that fine hotel under the SPG umbrella. I'd long been looking forward to it. It also took a bit longer to sort out than I'd hoped. But sorted it was.

And I still think it's a shame. But I also understand business enough to know that if SPG couldn't retain them, there was probably a larger issue at hand than Starwood not caring. And contracts are contracts.

As well, William correctly points out that the issue was resolved amicably - and he did indeed give me the grand tour of Austin when I was in town last year.... Grand might actually be an understatement ;-)
daveland and William: Thanks for the update on what had happened. As I pointed out, there are two sides to every story and it now looks like the resolution was appropriate given the circumstances. At the time this thread was posted, I was off in Japan, enjoying many Starwood properties, and did not sign on to this site.

I also realize that many issues arise in business that require changes, and this may be one of them. However, in my view and in the view of many groups giving awards, the Cip was one of the finest Starwood properties and for this property to leave Starwood is a major loss. Is it possible to inform those who post frequently on this board and stay at these properties why Starwood is unable to retain properties such as this?

I suspect that William's action of looking after daveland when he came to Austin, was in part because of his dedication to his job and personally trying to communicate that he and Starwood appreciate daveland's support.
