is there a new TSA rule that forbids radio scanners in carry-on bags?
I had my ICOM handheld radio scanner in my laptop case. When they
saw it, they told me it's not allowed anymore. I told them I always had
it with me when I fly. The supervisor told me if I wanted to fly today,
I have to go back to the airline counter and put it in my check-in bags.
He said my other option is to throw it in the trash...
Being the chickens*ht that I am, I didn't argue with the supervisor.
I complied and went back to the airline counter. I ended up putting my
ICOM scanner in my backpack and checked the backpack.
FYI, my ICOM scanner is small. 0.5" x 2" x 2" (less than a pack of playing
cards) It only receives, not trasmit. I do NOT ever use it inside the airport terminal or on planes... I imagine my cell phone is a lot more likely to
cause any interference...
Can someone tell me when the TSA came up with this new rule?
