I think this is a good policy in general but I don't agree with charging the person for a 2nd seat IF there is an open seat on the plane that UA could put them next to. WN does it this way..they only have to pay if the flight is indeed full and that's fair and reasonable. Apparently AA does it that way too according to the article.
