i'm 6', and when i sit in E-, my knees aren't "shoved up against one's face." in fact, my knee's don't even touch the seat in front of me.
my brother is probably 400lbs. he can hardly fit into an airline seat, so yes, it's definitely fair to have them pay for the second seat. because i would not like it if i was pushed up against the bulkhead.
and the BMI scale is not set in concrete. if it was, every athlete would be considered "fat", since muscle mass weighs more then fat.
good move on UA's part if this is true.
