Open-jaws are permitted on most award bookings, but I believe you will need to phone a UA agent to book this then.
As well as any award itin that involves any *A carriers other than United. Which is a problem because you can't play around and try to figure out an itin ahead of time, other than via the ANA tool which doesn't show all carriers and doesn't reflect United's *A blocking policies.
