I don't understand why we are attacking the OP when he/she is raising a valid point. If F was going out full and the OP was making a case for additional sticker upgrades, yeah, then sure, the OP would deserve our hostility.
Remember, AA is an airline that removed a few cashews from the warm nut mix twice in the last eight years to save money. This is the airline that got rid of Makers Mark to save a few hundred thousand dollars a year. Most of all, this is an airline that a while back removed the salt and pepper shakers to save a few dollars.
I'm sure there are quite a few routes system wide where F routinely does not go out full. It's a step forward that cash for upgrades are offered to non-elites at the kiosk and by ticket agents.
With this procedure in place, it only makes sense that GAs should also be assigned to offer cash upgrades at the gate. Additionally, what is wrong with amending the upgrade policy to allow elites to upgrade more than one companion once all other upgrades have cleared?
Surely, a policy such as this would generate at least the amount equal to the savings derived from the removal of the cashews, Makers Mark and salt and pepper shakers.
Why not have a discussion around here before choosing to cast stones?
