Now this is interesting! I recently booked a F&F rate for one night at the IC Tahiti. I e-mailed the hotel prior to booking regarding Ambassador upgrades with the F&F rate and here is the reply I received from the Assistant Front Office Manager:
"As an Ambassador member, you will be upgraded and off course you will be able to have an late check out until 4 pm local time if needed. Rate does not affects or play a role for those benefits. Simply give your Ambassador’s card number to our reservation when you will fixed your date. "
Given this information, I booked one category below the room we want. I guess I better print out her e-mail and take it with me to be safe.
